Answer: 1970s
The first Ethernet cable was invented in the 1970s. Ethernet was developed at Xerox Corporation's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in the early 1970s, and the first Ethernet cable was used as part of the original Ethernet system. This technology was later standardized in 1983 as Ethernet Version 1 (Ethernet I) by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Ethernet was initially developed by Robert Metcalfe and his colleagues at Xerox PARC to connect computers within a local area network (LAN). The first Ethernet system used a coaxial cable known as "thicknet," which was relatively robust but challenging to install. Later, thinner and more flexible coaxial cables, such as "thinnet," were introduced, making Ethernet more accessible for widespread use.
