He held professorships at Harvard, the University of Utah, and Caltech. Sutherland co-founded companies that made significant strides in computer graphics technology. Throughout his career, Sutherland received numerous awards and honors, including the Turing Award, the U.S. National Academy of Engineering Zworykin Award, Smithsonian Computer World Award, and the Kyoto Prize. He was also elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
