The City of Seattle has appointed Shannon Smith as Chief Technology Officer, bringing an experienced public-sector technology leader back to government after nearly two years in the private sector.

Smith will lead Seattle’s technology organization, overseeing enterprise technology governance, workforce management, vendor partnerships and the city’s technology strategy. The department includes approximately 633 employees and manages roughly $300 million in operating and capital budgets.
Most recently, Smith served as Director of Public Sector, County Government at CAI, where she advised cities and counties on technology strategy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and managed services initiatives. Prior to joining CAI, she spent more than a decade in public-sector technology leadership roles.
