Internet passwords may be coming to an end upon the advent of the Passkey, which is more secure and phishing resistant. Apple, Google and Microsoft are all working with FIDO and World Wide Web to provide support for passkeys on their platforms.

Why it matters: Passkeys avoid weak, easy, overused, passwords that hackers can easily access. It also removes the reuse of passwords and will not be exposed from one application to another.

  • Even password mangers, which keep passwords for you, are not fool proof and can be hacked.
  • There’s no reuse of passwords as passkeys are unique to each user and application. The passkey appears to be a much safer and secure means for security and is anticipated to be instituted by the end of 2024.
