Answer: John Backus
FORTRAN, or Formula Translation, was a computer programming language invented by John Backus in 1957. It revolutionized programming by simplifying the process and increasing accessibility. Before FORTRAN, programming required complex instructions in machine or assembly language. Over a span of three years, Backus guided a group of 10 IBM employees in the development phase, collaborating to craft a language that fused elements of English shorthand with algebraic equations.
