The U.S. government has appointed Gregory Barbaccia as its new Federal Chief Information Officer. Barbaccia brings extensive private-sector expertise, including a decade at Palantir and most recently serving as Chief Information Security Officer at Theorem, a machine-learning-enabled asset management firm.

At Theorem, Barbaccia oversaw critical security operations during a period that included its acquisition by Pagaya Technologies. Prior to that, he contributed to blockchain intelligence efforts at Elementus and built his career in data and intelligence during his tenure at Palantir. A former U.S. Army intelligence sergeant and intelligence community analyst, Barbaccia also brings deep security and analytical expertise to his new position.
As Federal CIO, Barbaccia will lead IT policy and strategy for the federal government, manage IT budgets, and collaborate on modernization initiatives alongside the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“I look forward to leveraging my experience to strengthen and modernize federal IT systems, ensuring they are secure, efficient, and forward-looking to meet the needs of the American people,” Barbaccia shared in a LinkedIn post announcing his appointment.
