CompTIA’s latest Tech Jobs Report shows continued movement in the technology labor market. New tech job postings increased for the sixth consecutive month in June, with employers continuing to hire for software, engineering, support, data, and AI-related roles.

The report also notes ongoing investment in digital transformation initiatives and more defined AI plans.

June’s employment data presents a mixed picture. Tech occupation employment increased during the month, while overall employment within the technology industry declined by about 900 jobs.

These figures show that demand for technology talent continues across many industries, even as hiring patterns vary by sector.

Why It Matters: Technology hiring data offers one of the earliest indicators of where organizations are directing resources. June’s report shows how workforce planning, AI adoption, and investment priorities continue to influence hiring decisions across industries.

  • Tech Hiring Continued to Grow: New tech job postings increased for the sixth consecutive month, while active postings remained elevated. CompTIA attributes the increase to renewed digital transformation efforts and more clearly defined AI initiatives.
  • Employment Varied by Measure and Sector: June’s employment data moved in different directions depending on how it was measured. Employment in technology occupations increased, while the technology industry lost approximately 900 jobs overall. Gains in IT and custom software services and semiconductor manufacturing were offset by declines in telecommunications and cloud infrastructure, data processing, and hosting.
  • Software and AI Hiring Remained Prominent: Software developers and engineers generated the largest number of job postings, followed by systems engineers, technical support specialists, data analysts, and DevOps engineers. The report also tracked employer demand for dedicated AI roles as well as postings that listed AI skills, showing that AI hiring extends beyond AI-specific job titles.
  • Technology Hiring Extended Across Multiple Industries: Professional, scientific, and technical services recorded the highest volume of tech job postings, followed by administrative and support services, manufacturing, information and media, and finance and insurance. The distribution of job postings shows that demand for technology talent spans multiple industries, not just technology companies.
  • CompTIA Updated Its Reporting Methodology: Beginning with this release, the report uses a revised job posting methodology aligned with CompTIA’s Tech Jobs Taxonomy and captures additional occupations that heavily feature technology skills. Historical job posting data has also been updated to maintain consistent trend reporting across the dataset.
