Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, said “every product of every company” will be impacted by the quick development of AI, warning that society needs to prepare for technologies like the ones it’s already launched. Pichai spoke with CBS’s 60 Minutes and explained how far the technology has come and where it’s taking society in the near future.

Why it matters: According to Pichai, AI will impact every product across every industry. This means that society needs to adapt to the technology and begin getting ready for the changes that it will bring.

  • Jobs that would be disrupted by AI would be “knowledge workers,” including writers, accountants, architects, and software engineers.
  • Google’s Bard, launched as an experimental product to the public last month, has offered interesting insights into the future capabilities and behavior of AI chatbots. The technology is still unpredictable and the development of it should include not only engineers but social scientists, ethicists, philosophers, etc.
  • Compared to other groundbreaking technologies from the past, people have started worrying about the implications of AI early, which bodes well for the ability to adapt it accordingly.
