OpenAI has promoted Uday Ruddarraju to Chief Technology Officer, Compute, following a year as the company’s Head of Compute and Infrastructure.
He joined OpenAI in July 2025 from xAI, where he served as Head of Infrastructure Engineering across both xAI and X, leading the infrastructure engineering organization supporting their AI and platform operations.
Earlier, Ruddarraju spent nearly six years at Robinhood, where he advanced from Staff Software Engineer to Principal Software Engineer before becoming Senior Director of Engineering & Head of Infrastructure, reflecting a steady progression into increasingly senior leadership roles.
In his new position, Ruddarraju will oversee OpenAI’s compute strategy and the infrastructure used to develop and train its frontier AI models.
