The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has appointed Hemant Baidwan as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), succeeding Ken Bible after his retirement. Baidwan brings extensive experience, having previously served as the Deputy CISO at DHS, where he implemented critical cybersecurity initiatives to strengthen the department’s resilience.
During his tenure, Baidwan strengthened Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management, adopted Zero Trust models, and developed cybersecurity measures for AI systems. He also administered programs like Hack DHS, which invites ethical hackers to identify vulnerabilities, and oversaw the creation of the Unified Cybersecurity Maturity Model to standardize cybersecurity practices.
With over twenty years of leadership experience in cybersecurity risk management, including 13 years at DHS and contributions at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and DHS Headquarters, Baidwan has been pivotal in advancing the department’s cybersecurity posture. This appointment comes at a critical time as DHS faces sophisticated cyber threats. Under Baidwan’s guidance, the department aims to strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities further, protecting critical infrastructure and enhancing national security.
