Lockheed Martin has named Dr. Craig Martell as its new Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, effective June 23, 2025. Dr. Martell will report to John Clark, Senior Vice President for Technology and Strategic Innovation, and will lead the corporation’s technology strategy across advanced research, development, and innovation initiatives.

Dr. Martell brings over two decades of expertise at the intersection of artificial intelligence, national defense, and enterprise-scale technology innovation. He most recently served as Chief AI Officer at Cohesity, where he guided the integration of AI and machine learning to enhance data security and intelligence.
Prior to his role in the private sector, Dr. Martell held a pivotal government leadership position as the inaugural Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Officer (CDAO) at the U.S. Department of Defense. There, he was responsible for driving the DoD’s digital modernization and AI transformation efforts.
His earlier experience includes leading AI and machine learning teams at top technology firms, such as Lyft, Dropbox, and LinkedIn, as well as a decade-long tenure as a Professor of Computer Science at the Naval Postgraduate School, where he also directed the Natural Language Processing Lab.
