General Motors has appointed Michael Hanley as its new Chief Information Security Officer. Hanley, who officially joined GM in December 2024, brings a wealth of experience from prominent roles in the cybersecurity and technology sectors. Most recently, he served as Chief Technology Officer at GitHub, where he previously held the role of Chief Security Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering.
In a LinkedIn post announcing the appointment, Hanley expressed his enthusiasm for joining GM at a transformative time in the automotive and mobility industry. He shared a personal connection to the company, highlighting his Michigan roots, his grandfather’s career as a GM engineer, and his early work supporting GM IT at EDS.

Over his 20-year career, Hanley has held leadership positions at companies including Duo Security and Cisco.
