The U.S. Department of Energy has appointed Ryan Riedel as its new Chief Information Officer. A seasoned cybersecurity and IT leader, Riedel brings extensive experience from both the public and private sectors, including SpaceX, U.S. Army Cyber Command, and the U.S. Navy.

Riedel has spent the past three years at SpaceX, most recently serving as Lead Network Security Engineer. Before that, he was Network Manager at U.S. Army Cyber Command and held multiple IT and engineering roles at the Corpus Christi Army Depot.
A seven-year U.S. Navy veteran, Riedel’s background includes expertise in network security, IT infrastructure, and cyber defense.
In his new role, Riedel will oversee the Department of Energy’s IT operations and cybersecurity strategy, spanning national labs, the National Nuclear Security Administration, and power marketing administrations.
