Australian-based software company Atlassian (NASDAQ: TEAM) has appointed Matthew Graviss as its first-ever Chief Technology Officer for the Public Sector.

Graviss will lead Atlassian’s efforts to expand its public sector footprint, focusing on AI, data strategy, and technology modernization. His role will involve shaping the responsibilities of the newly created position, demonstrating value to government clients, and driving innovation in public sector digital transformation.
He joins Atlassian after nearly 17 years in federal government service, most recently serving as Chief Data and AI Officer at the U.S. Department of State. In that role, he led AI adoption, established the agency’s first data governance framework, and launched StateChat, the government’s first cabinet-level AI chatbot.
Scott Blacker, Head of Global Solutions, highlighted Graviss’s expertise, stating, “His deep expertise in AI, data, and public sector technology will be invaluable as we work to help government agencies modernize, collaborate, and drive mission success.”
