With the assistance of AI, over half of common passwords reviewed by online security experts can be hacked in under a minute. A new report unveiled by security experts at Home Security Heroes sheds light on how a unique AI tool can be utilized to crack basic passwords in minutes or even seconds.

Why it matters: The tool, PASSGAN, uses the GAN part to run on a neural network that can dissect data to get smarter in no time. Passwords must be protected, and it starts with personal responsibility.

  • Home Security Heroes found that 81% of their test group of 15,600,000 common passwords could be cracked in less than a month.
  • PassGAN took just six minutes to determine a password with seven characters. Even if it contained uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, it would be cracked very quickly.
  • By changing your password regularly, using strong password patterns, and not using the same password across different accounts, you can protect your data.
