In a three-pronged announcement on Monday, Google unveiled a new chatbot called “Bard” to compete with ChatGPT. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai said that the experimental conversational AI service, powered by their Language Model for Dialog Applications, or LaMDA for short, has been opened up to trusted testers and will be made publicly available in the coming weeks.
Why it matters: ChatGPT already has an estimated 100 million users, and with Microsoft taking the lead on deploying generative AI services, Google can’t afford to stand by.
- Google will be bringing generative AI into its search product to give users the option of exploring a diverse range of opinions and perspectives instead of just quick, factual answers.
- Bold and responsible AI at the center – Google is committed to developing AI responsibly, as demonstrated in their AI Principles.
