Google has completed its $32 billion acquisition of cloud cybersecurity company Wiz, finalizing the largest purchase in the company’s history.
The New York–based firm now operates within Google Cloud while keeping the Wiz brand and continuing to support customers across several cloud providers.
The acquisition comes as organizations rely more heavily on cloud infrastructure and AI systems to build and release software. These environments introduce security risks that traditional tools often struggle to address.
By combining Wiz’s platform with Google Cloud infrastructure, AI capabilities, and Mandiant threat intelligence, the companies plan to deliver a unified security platform designed to protect applications from the moment code is written through live production environments.
Why It Matters: Cloud infrastructure hosts many of the systems organizations depend on every day, including applications, data, and AI-driven tools. As organizations continue building and deploying software in these environments, security platforms must handle constant change and identify vulnerabilities before they turn into real threats.
- Largest Acquisition In Google’s History: Google paid $32 billion in cash to acquire Wiz, surpassing any previous purchase by the company. Talks began in 2024 when Google first approached the startup with a $23 billion offer, which Wiz declined at the time. Negotiations resumed later, and the acquisition was announced in March 2025 before receiving regulatory approval from U.S. authorities in November 2025 and from the European Union in February 2026. Wiz entered the deal after reaching more than $1 billion in annual recurring revenue in 2025 and building a customer base that includes many global enterprises and roughly half of the Fortune 100.
- Unified Visibility Across The Full Application Lifecycle: Wiz’s platform connects source code, cloud infrastructure, and running workloads into a single security view. This approach helps teams detect vulnerabilities earlier in development and understand how risks carry through into deployed environments. When combined with Google Cloud security tools and threat intelligence, the platform can monitor systems continuously and help teams respond to threats before they disrupt production systems.
- Security Built For AI-Driven Development: Software development often involves generative AI tools and automated pipelines that can move an application from concept to deployment in minutes. Wiz has expanded its platform to address this environment by giving teams visibility into how AI is used and by protecting AI workloads as they run in cloud infrastructure. The company also introduced AI security agents designed to assist with investigating vulnerabilities and guiding remediation using context gathered across the development and deployment process.
- Multi-Cloud Support Continues Across Major Providers: Wiz will continue to support environments running on Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud. Many organizations run applications across more than one provider to maintain flexibility and avoid dependence on a single platform. Maintaining compatibility across these environments allows security teams to monitor risk consistently while protecting workloads wherever they are deployed.
- Research Discoveries And New Security Tools Strengthen The Platform: Wiz’s research team has identified major vulnerabilities affecting widely used technologies across cloud environments. Discoveries include RediShell, a remote code execution flaw in Redis that affected many deployments, CodeBreach, a supply chain vulnerability that could have impacted the AWS console, and NVIDIAScape, a container escape vulnerability tied to shared AI infrastructure. The company also introduced new capabilities such as Wiz Exposure Management, which gives teams a unified view of risk across their environments, along with WizOS, hardened container-base images designed to help developers start with fewer vulnerabilities in their software foundations.
