Google’s new cybersecurity product, Threat Intelligence, combines the analytical power of its Gemini AI model with the expertise of its Mandiant unit and the community insights of VirusTotal. The platform is designed to simplify cybersecurity threat analysis and response, offering detailed threat reports that are easy to understand. With the Gemini 1.5 Pro large language model, the system efficiently reverse-engineers malware and provides concise summaries of potential risks.

Google acquired Mandiant in 2022, and its expertise will further bolster the platform’s security offerings. Threat Intelligence aims to equip organizations with a clearer view of cybersecurity, helping them prioritize and address emerging threats quickly.

Why it matters: Google’s Threat Intelligence harnesses the latest in AI to revolutionize how cybersecurity professionals detect and respond to online threats. By merging Mandiant’s and VirusTotal’s data with the powerful Gemini AI model, this platform promises quicker identification of risks and actionable insights that can enhance an organization’s ability to defend itself.

  • Gemini AI’s Capabilities: Gemini 1.5 Pro, released in February, quickly reverse-engineers malware. It dissected the WannaCry ransomware attack in just 34 seconds, revealing a kill switch that could have mitigated the impact of this notorious malware.
  • Comprehensive Monitoring: VirusTotal and Mandiant contribute to a vast network of intelligence, providing a real-time snapshot of the cybersecurity environment and aiding in the prioritization of security responses.
  • AI Security: The platform also addresses potential risks in AI models, defending against threats like “data poisoning” that could corrupt training data.
