Clear strategies, risk evaluation, and responsible AI governance are essential for successful implementation.

A survey by KPMG U.S. reveals that while executives expect generative AI to have a significant impact on their organizations, most are unprepared for immediate adoption. The survey highlights the challenges in keeping pace with the technology and the need for CEOs and boards to invest time in understanding and implementing generative AI responsibly.

Why it matters: Generative AI has the potential to transform businesses, but CIOs must address barriers to adoption, including clear business cases and the right technology, talent, and governance. Prioritizing rapid implementation while ensuring responsible deployment is crucial for staying competitive.

  • 65% of executives anticipate high or extremely high impact of generative AI on their organizations in the next 3-5 years with 60% still a year or two away from implementing their first generative AI solution.
  • Less than half of the respondents feel equipped with the necessary technology, talent, and governance for successful implementation.
  • Executives also recognize the impact of generative AI on the workforce, anticipating increased productivity, changes in work dynamics, and innovation opportunities.
