Delta’s $500 Million Lawsuit Against CrowdStrike for “Preventable” IT Outage

Delta Air Lines has filed a lawsuit against cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, seeking over $500 million in damages following a significant IT outage in July that disrupted thousands of flights.

The airline alleges that CrowdStrike’s failure to properly test a security software update caused the massive system failure. Despite Delta’s attempts to prevent automatic updates, the software reportedly reached the airline’s computers, leading to prolonged disruptions and an estimated $380 million in lost revenue, alongside $170 million in additional costs.

The lawsuit also accuses CrowdStrike of breaching contract terms, citing negligence in product testing that led to the unauthorized infiltration of Delta’s systems.

While CrowdStrike’s CEO has since apologized and offered to implement preventive measures, Delta claims that its recovery was slower than competitors due to outdated IT infrastructure and inadequate contingency support.
