The need for speed.

Palantir Technologies (NYSE:PLTR) crossed a major threshold in the second quarter of 2025, generating over $1 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time. Total revenue grew 48% year-over-year, driven by a 93% surge in U.S. Commercial business and a 53% increase in U.S. Government revenue. The company also posted its highest-ever contract bookings, expanded customer count, and lifted full-year guidance across revenue, operating income, and free cash flow. Palantir’s momentum has not gone unnoticed by investors: its stock has gained more than 500% over the past twelve months, reflecting sustained enthusiasm for its operational execution and platform-led growth.

Central to Palantir’s expansion is the rapid adoption of its Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) and the underlying data framework it calls “ontology.”

This system acts as a structured, shared model of an organization’s data, processes, and relationships, enabling AI applications to interact with complex workflows in real-time. The result is not just faster deployment of AI, but measurable business impact across sectors such as banking, healthcare, manufacturing, and defense. Increasingly, customers are building their own software and decision systems directly on Palantir’s platform architecture.

Why It Matters: Palantir’s results underscore a broader shift in enterprise technology: scalable AI depends on structured data environments that reflect how businesses actually operate. For CIOs and CTOs, the takeaway is clear, success with AI requires more than large language models. It demands infrastructure that contextualizes data, accelerates development, and drives action across departments. Palantir’s ontology-based approach offers a tangible model for executing on this strategy.

  • AIP Enables Rapid, Scalable AI Deployment: Palantir’s AI Platform (AIP) is emerging as an enterprise backbone for building AI-native applications. Designed with pre-integrated components and workflow tools, it helps organizations develop and deploy solutions significantly faster than with traditional hyperscaler services. As Sankar explained, “Software companies are replatforming away from the highly unopinionated services and building blocks of the hyperscaler stack onto AIP… that get you to value 10 times faster.”
  • AI Driving Tangible Efficiency Gains Across Industries: Customers across sectors are seeing significant returns. Citibank reduced onboarding times from nine days to seconds. Fannie Mae cut mortgage fraud detection from two months to seconds, and Nebraska Medicine saw a 2,100% increase in discharge lounge utilization, “the equivalent of adding another unit to their hospital,” according to its COO. These outcomes illustrate AI’s impact when embedded directly into business workflows.
  • Government Sector Expanding Use of AI for National Security: Palantir continues to secure high-value defense contracts, including a 10-year enterprise agreement with the U.S. Army worth up to $10 billion. Its Maven Smart System is gaining traction across military domains, with usage doubling in recent months. “We remain focused… on equipping our warfighters with decisive advantages over our adversaries,” said Chief Revenue Officer Ryan Taylor.
  • Ontology Framework Unlocks Contextual AI: Palantir’s ontology architecture allows AI systems to operate with real-time context, mapping relationships between people, data, and processes. “Realizing value from AI in the enterprise requires the elegant integration of LLMs, workflow, and software, and that’s only possible with ontology,” Sankar noted. This structured foundation allows for reliable AI adoption across departments and use cases.
  • Customer Growth Fueled by Platform-Centric Expansion: The company reported strong customer growth and upsell momentum, closing 157 deals over $1 million and expanding its U.S. Commercial customer base by 64% year-over-year. One healthcare client signed an $88 million agreement just weeks after initial onboarding. “We’re seeing new starts with higher ambition, and existing customers expand their work at a faster rate,” said Taylor.
