Balaji Subramaniam has been appointed Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), officially assuming the role after serving in an acting capacity since October 2025.
As CIO, Subramaniam will lead the agency’s enterprise technology strategy, overseeing the systems that support TSA’s aviation security mission while guiding modernization initiatives across cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital services.
Subramaniam has spent several years in senior technology leadership roles at TSA, most recently serving as Director of Classified IT Operations, where he managed the agency’s classified technology infrastructure. Earlier, he led application modernization efforts as Director of Application Development, helping advance agile development practices across the organization.
Before joining the federal government, Subramaniam held technology leadership and enterprise architecture roles with IBM and defense consulting firms, supporting mission-critical programs for organizations including the U.S. Army, the Defense Logistics Agency, and the Defense Contract Management Agency.
