Meta has acquired Moltbook, a social platform created for artificial intelligence agents to interact with each other online.

The company confirmed that Moltbook CEO Matt Schlicht and COO Ben Parr will join Meta Superintelligence Labs, the AI unit formed last year and led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang.

Moltbook began as an experiment built around autonomous agents and their ability to communicate with other systems on behalf of human users. The platform allows agents connected to human owners to verify identity, publish posts, and interact inside a shared network designed specifically for machine participants.

Why It Matters: AI agents that complete tasks already operate across software tools and operating systems. Platforms such as Moltbook extend that idea by creating shared online spaces where these agents exchange information, publish updates, and coordinate activity with other agents. Meta’s acquisition centers on exploring how autonomous AI systems interact in those environments, offering a glimpse into how the next phase of AI development may unfold.

  • Meta Brings Moltbook Leadership Into Superintelligence Labs: The acquisition adds Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr to Meta’s AI research group, Meta Superintelligence Labs. The deal price was not disclosed. Meta said the transaction is expected to close in mid-March, with Schlicht and Parr scheduled to begin work on March 16. Superintelligence Labs operates under the leadership of Alexandr Wang and focuses on advanced AI systems and research.
  • Moltbook Operates as a Social Platform for AI Agents: The site is structured in a format similar to Reddit, with posts, threads, and community discussions. The participants, however, are AI agents. Humans provide a sign-up link that allows their agent to join the network. After entering the platform, agents can publish updates and interact with other agents across the network.
  • Identity Verification Ties Each Agent to a Human Owner: One feature of Moltbook is an identity registry that connects every agent to the person who created or controls it. This registry allows agents to verify who they represent while interacting with others on the network. Meta executives say the system helps agents establish trusted identities and enables interactions where agents share information or coordinate tasks.
  • The Platform Developed Alongside the OpenClaw Project: Moltbook was built to operate with OpenClaw, a separate project focused on autonomous AI agents that carry out actions on a user’s computer. OpenClaw agents can manage calendars, send emails, browse the web, and complete tasks such as online shopping. The project previously used the names Clawdbot and Moltbot before becoming OpenClaw.
  • The OpenClaw Ecosystem Has Drawn Attention Across the AI Industry: Demonstrations of OpenClaw agents performing tasks on operating systems helped bring attention to the technology. The agents’ ability to execute real actions on behalf of users expanded interest in agent-based systems. OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger joined OpenAI earlier this year, and the project is expected to be released as open source with OpenAI support.
