Kroger has appointed Milen Mahadevan to the newly created role of Chief Data and AI Officer, expanding his responsibilities as the retailer increases its focus on artificial intelligence across the business.

Mahadevan will continue serving as President and CEO of Kroger’s data science and analytics subsidiary, 84.51°, while also overseeing the company’s data and AI teams. In the role, he will work with business leaders to embed advanced AI capabilities into operations and customer engagement.
Kroger said the move consolidates its data and AI efforts under a single leader and supports the development of next-generation “agentic” AI tools designed to improve productivity and transform how the company operates.
Mahadevan joined Kroger when it acquired dunnhumby’s U.S. business in 2015 after nearly 15 years with the analytics firm. He became Chief Operating Officer of 84.51° in 2017 and was named President and CEO in 2020.
