Anthropic Growth Accelerates as Global Demand Climbs

Up, up, and away!

Anthropic’s revenue run-rate in India has doubled in four months, CEO Dario Amodei said at the company’s Builder Summit in Bengaluru, highlighting strong momentum in one of the world’s largest technology markets. India is now Anthropic’s biggest market outside the United States, driven largely by enterprise uptake of Claude Code, its AI assistant built for software engineering and knowledge work.

The growth comes as Anthropic scales globally following a $30 billion funding round that valued the company at $380 billion.

With India serving as a major IT services hub and a fast-growing market for AI adoption, developments there offer U.S. leaders a clearer view of how generative AI tools may reshape software development, outsourcing models, and corporate productivity at scale.

Why It Matters: As both a major software development hub and a global outsourcing center, India offers insight into how AI coding assistants and agentic systems may alter productivity benchmarks, vendor economics, and workforce models that American corporations rely on. For U.S. CIOs, investors, and technology providers, the pace of deployment there adds context to debates around AI return on investment, infrastructure spending, and how soon enterprise-wide adoption could reshape competitive dynamics across industries.

  • A Live Market for Enterprise AI at Scale: Claude Code has gained traction among developers and enterprises seeking productivity gains in software creation and maintenance. In India, usage skews heavily toward professional workloads, suggesting that companies are integrating AI directly into core engineering and operational systems rather than limiting use to experimentation. This offers a real-time example of how quickly adoption can move once tools prove reliable.
  • Implications for U.S. Companies Using Global IT Vendors: India’s $283 billion IT services sector has seen significant equity volatility amid concerns that AI agents such as Claude Cowork could automate portions of outsourced white-collar work. For American corporations that depend on offshore development and back-office support, generative AI could alter cost structures, contract terms, and competitive dynamics among vendors.
  • Enterprise-Wide Deployments Are Underway: Air India is using Claude Code to accelerate custom software builds and integrate AI agents into operations. Cognizant plans to roll out Claude to 350,000 employees globally as part of a modernization push.
  • Revenue Growth Is Paired With Infrastructure Commitments: Anthropic’s overall revenue run-rate has climbed from $9 billion last year to $14 billion. At the same time, the company plans to spend $50 billion on U.S. data centers and deploy tens of billions of dollars’ worth of AI chips from Google.
  • India as a Competitive Proving Ground: Backed by Amazon and Alphabet, Anthropic is competing with OpenAI and other U.S.-based AI firms for enterprise share. Rapid scaling in India offers a measurable benchmark for how generative AI products perform in large, technically advanced markets. The trajectory there may inform expectations around adoption speed, monetization, and competitive positioning in the United States and beyond.
