Airbnb has named Ahmad Al-Dahle as its new Chief Technology Officer.
He joins the company from Meta, where he led the Generative AI group and oversaw the development of the Llama family of open-source AI models. These models have been downloaded over one billion times and have contributed significantly to the open-source AI ecosystem.

Al-Dahle began his career at Apple, where he worked on the iPhone’s display and multitouch systems and later contributed to technology across several major devices, including the Apple Watch. In 2014, he established and led Apple’s autonomous systems group, focused on artificial intelligence for self-driving technology.
At Meta, he initially led applied AI and mapping projects within Reality Labs before founding the Generative AI division in 2023. His teams launched AI features across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and helped scale Meta’s AI capabilities for both consumer products and developers.
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said Al-Dahle’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the company as it seeks to develop technology that strengthens real-world connection and serves people in more meaningful ways.
