Enterprise data warehouse systems (EDWs) are imperative for any secure business to procure data that is useful and relevant. CIOs and technology leaders alike must always employ effective strategies to promote growth, but in doing so require refined analytics.
EDW systems are a collection of databases, either on-server or on the cloud, that centralize a business’s online information for use. They improve the quality of data by drawing from a large variety of parameters and eliminating redundant information.
As CIOs/CTOs, the responsibility of choosing your EDW platform can reflect your data management skills, so it is vital to consider this at all levels.
In February 2021, The National CIO Review polled our 2000+ member CIO Professional Network of top technology leaders on the Enterprise Data Warehouse system currently in use within their company.

With over 25% of technology leaders registering Power Bl as their top EDW system, there is a clearly a leader in the pack. However with Snowflake at 13% and SAP BW at 11%, there is a competitive field, with many CIOs using varied systems.
Our CIO Professional Network members commented on the aspects they find most important when choosing a system. One common theme was an emphasis on overall design and cloud access. EDWs require a user-friendly design, especially when operating with countless data parameters. Having access to the Cloud is also preferred, with many platforms such as Snowflake, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Amazon Redshift, and others all now including this functionality.
Regardless of the chosen platform, a healthy data and analytics structure is imperative for technology leaders and their organizations to make informed decisions.
